Our approach

For Groomy Cat, the well-being of the cat is our priority. During at-home sessions, we do everything we can to make the experience as pleasant as possible for Minou.

Very often, cats have an intolerance to grooming care. One of the particularities specific to the species is the physical discomfort caused by contact with certain body areas (such as the legs, stomach, etc., in most individuals). Thus,cutting the tips of the cat's claws can become a real challenge!

The Groomy Cat approach allows perform grooming activities while maintaining a minimum level of stress in the cat. As a result, he becomes more cooperative and more easily accepts being brushed, claw tips cut, ears cleaned, etc.

To achieve this goal, several essential parameters are taken into account during home sessions:

Different approaches are used during the sessions depending on the grooming act to be performed and the cat's degree of aversion:

  • Distraction.

  • Desensitization and counter-conditioning.| ||79

  • Renforcement positif.

  • Manipulation techniques and gentle restraints (low stress - techniques of Dr Sophia Yin).

The pace of care is adapted according to the level oftolerance of the cat. This involves taking frequent breaks if the cat shows the slightest sign of discomfort, the aim being to prevent the session from becoming unpleasant.

Les instruments de toilettage utilisés duringthe sessions are adapted specifically to the feline species, but also to the sensitivity of each cat: to contactcutaneous (soft brushes or grooming gloves), noise (quiet clippers with reduced vibration), contact with gums for brushing teeth (ultra soft silicone brushes), etc. .

A first interview is essential if the cat is very fearful of humans or cannot tolerate routine care:

  • assess the degree of aversion to grooming to determine the duration of the session depending on the preferred approach. This will help avoid generating stress in your cat as much as possible;

  • identify his preference in terms of treats so that the reward is the most pleasant and motivating for him. him ;

  • determine the number of sessions that will be necessary depending on the type of grooming treatment to be performed. Indeed, certain actions, such as detangling and clipping, may require several sessions when the work to be done on the cat is too arduous and long and becomes intolerable.
